“However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters that you don’t just give up.”
I always thought Stephen Hawking was Spartan as all hell.
Indominable kind of guy.
Life kept clawing things away from him and he just kept peering at the center of the cosmos and grinding away at his work undeterred. He simply focused on what he could do with what time he had.
One laborious word at a time he communicated. One letter at a time he published monumental works, never giving up.
Have you seen him write? The only way this man with so much to say was able to express himself was hammer out one letter at a time.
The guy with the most to say left with almost no way to say it.
He did, though. One letter at a time. Because he found a way, no matter how slow and painful and tedious.
He went to work.
As Spartan we don’t care what handicaps you have. We are just here to support you. Wherever you are, that’s where the work begins. Spartans are adaptive and brave in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds.
If you are an Olympic athlete, you run your race one step at a time. If you are a 300+ pound newb off the couch, you run your race one step at a time.
If you are the fastest typist and most prolific novelist in the world you write your works one word at a time. If you are just learning to read and write, you write one word at a time.
Some of us have to take longer routes. Some of us take smaller and slower steps. But we all take one step at a time to the best of our current abilities as we strive to better our abilities.
That’s just the way it is.
Most people complain and give up at this point, disheartened by where they find themselves.
But something is in your control, no matter where you are. Something is always on you.
You can work where you are, with what you have, to the best of your abilities.
You can shut up and get to work, never giving up, one step at a time.
Stephen Hawkings exemplified this Spartan equation for success while pouring forth the equations that forever shaped our understanding of the universe.
