Lindsay Webster Preps to Retain Her WC Crown

Lindsay Webster Preps to Retain Her WC Crown
Presented by Spartan Training®

Much can be written about reigning World Champion, Lindsay Webster. Given that Webster’s first Spartan Race was at the World Championship in Vermont in 2014, you can say she has a taste for the big stage and the big races. Since the debut of a five-race championship series spanning the United States in 2015, Webster has yet to be dethroned, winning each series. Given that, and the fact that she has finished in the top 5 in every Spartan Race World Championship she has attended (4th in 2014, 2nd in 2015 and 2016, 1st in 2017), Webster has set herself apart as one of the elite females to beat if you want to claim a championship victory.

While discussing elite women to watch in the North American Championship, Director of Sport, Joe DiStefano draws a distinction between Lindsay Webster and the rest of the field. “Lindsay has been consistent all season and has won each of the previous US race series.” Webster’s win in Utah sealed her third consecutive win in the US National Series and came on the heels of also taking first place in the Chicago Super in late June. It seems as if Webster is peaking at the right time headed into the North American Championships in Glen Jean, WV.

Headed into championship season, all eyes will be on Webster as she attempts to repeat as the World Champion. The Beast in West Virginia will be a litmus test as to who will be the favorite at the start line in Lake Tahoe. When asked how it feels to race with a target on her back, Webster responds, “I think there’s a group of top ladies who always have a target on their back, so this race isn’t any different in that respect. [The North American Championship] adds an element of pressure, but I’ve learned that I race my best when I’m not racing to win, but to do the best I can do”.

Webster concedes that the race in West Virginia is very important to her, but she will be treating this race as a tune-up to repeat as World Champion in Lake Tahoe the following month. When asked how she is approaching her training this year, Webster insisted she isn’t training much differently than the previous year. “I’m actually trying to replicate my training from last year as much as I can, because obviously I did something right!”
