Squats are one of the most common exercises in the fitness world. They are the base for most leg days, home exercise programs, and sports training plans. But how do you work your way up to a proper squat? The answer is quite simple: the wall sit.
To perform a wall sit, you place your back against an open wall. Brace through your core by pressing your lower back into the wall and bring your feet out in front of your body, at hips-width apart. While pushing your weight into the wall, sit as if you are sitting in a chair. An ideal wall sit is with a 90 degree angle at the knees and your feet directly in line. Start out with an isometric hold for a designated time. Once you are mastering your hold, you can move this into a wall squat where you lower your body into the wall sit for a 2 second hold then return to the start position.
