4 Healthy and Easy Paleo Desserts
Presented by Spartan Training®

Trying to eat Paleo but dealing with a sweet tooth? We've got you covered. With a little creativity, you can whip up Paleo desserts that are as healthy as they are easy.

“With some of Paleo's restrictions, it can be a challenging diet,” says dietitian Jonathan Valdez, MBA, RDN. “However, Paleo desserts can be a way to satisfy sweet cravings. It’s okay to have some sweet, as long as you're not going overboard.”

An easy go-to for satisfying your sweet tooth the Paleo way: with dark chocolate. (Yes, it's on the 'okay' list.) Here, we round up four healthy Paleo desserts that taste sinful but are 100 percent Spartan-approved, so you can treat yourself without sacrificing your health goals. And, yes, they all feature dark chocolate.

Paleo Desserts

1. Sweet Strawberry Chop

Ingredients

  • 8 strawberries
  • ¼ cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 Tbsp coconut flakes
  • 1 Tbsp honey

Directions

  1. Wash, dry, and chop the strawberries.
  2. In a small saucepan, melt the chocolate.
  3. Drizzle the dark chocolate over the chopped strawberries, and top with the coconut flakes and honey.

A single serving of strawberries (eight berries) contains more vitamin C than an orange. Strawberries also provide folate, potassium, manganese, dietary fiber, and magnesium.

2. Chocolate-Covered Strawberries

Ingredients

  • 3 cups strawberries, washed and dried
  • 15 oz dark chocolate
  • 1 tsp unsweetened dark cocoa powder

Directions

  1. Heat the chocolate in a small saucepan on low heat for about 10 to 15 minutes until all the chocolate has melted.
  2. Dip the strawberries in dark chocolate until covered, then lay on a flat tray.
  3. Sprinkle the cocoa powder over the chocolate-covered strawberries and freeze until the chocolate has hardened.

Dark chocolate that isn’t alkalized is heart-healthy, and may lower blood pressure and offer other health benefits.

3. Chocolate Almond Butter Bars

Ingredients

  • 1 cup almond butter
  • ¼ cup maple syrup or honey
  • ½ cup coconut flour
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • ½ cup coconut oil
  • strawberries, cut into heart shapes (sliced in half)
  • 3 Tbsp coconut flakes

Directions

  1. In a bowl, mix together the almond butter, maple syrup or honey, and coconut flour. Mold the mixture into bar-like shapes and arrange these on a tray.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the dark chocolate and coconut oil, then pour over the almond bar crust.
  3. Top each bar with the heart-shaped strawberries and coconut flakes.

A serving of almonds (or almond butter) contains about 6 grams of protein, 12 vitamins and minerals, 13 grams of healthy fats, 3 1/2 grams of fiber, and are low in sugar.

4. Amazing Avocado Mousse

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • ½ cup coconut milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 Tbsp maple syrup or honey

Directions

  1. Melt the chocolate in a small saucepan over medium heat.

Avocados are naturally nutrient-dense, containing 20 vitamins and minerals. Plus, they’re cholesterol-free and contain potassium, a mineral that supports healthy blood pressure.
